After a hard day at work or time spent walking round the shops we all need a place to relax, a place to be comfortable. It might be the bed, the couch but for most its the armchair. Just to come home and fall into our favourite armchair gives us a sense of security, its like arms being wrapped around us. Many designers have now recognised this need for security and comfort and fashioned some amazing designs for our favourite sitting place. Here are some that can be found in our contemporary furniture showroom…

Friday, July 24th, 2009

Spring and Summer is traditionally the time we decide to redecorate, change all the furnishings and generally change the look and feel of our rooms. Perhaps we might spend many a long hour pondering over wallpapers, furnishings, carpets, dining chairs etc… however, there is one piece of furniture that we always seen to forget about – the coffee table.

How many times have you visited a friends or neighbours house and found the coffee table looks out of place and is a million miles away from matching the surrounding décor? You know why this? It is because the coffee table was merely an afterthought!

Deco Home Bars

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009

Remember the bar slogans, “Free beer tomorrow” and “Beer is the answer, I just can’t remember the question”, it was great to read signs like that down at your local bar, sitting with your ‘beer buddies’ enjoying a few drinks. Unfortunately, days or nights like that are no longer apart of modern living. The no smoking ban and the present economical climate has seen people no longer afford to or want to spend much time in their local bars and clubs.

Home Accessories, That Little Something Extra…

Friday, July 17th, 2009

When people are planning to redecorate their homes they always try and visualise where each piece of furniture will be placed, then, change it around, again and again and again. Do we want a two seated sofa or a three seated, conventional or contemporary, plain or decorated? Then there is the carpet – plain or busy? In the end they all have to match up perfectly within the room.

Fun and Innovative Chairs

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

When we think of the term fun or ‘novelty chairs‘, we automatically think of an uncomfortable MDF contraption that someone’s father or uncle had ‘knocked up’ in their garden shed many moons ago. Covered in itchy fake fur or cheap leather and very often poorly made, none too comfy and obviously prone to easy breakage. Not the case today – fun or novelty chairs are innovative pieces of work and crafted in high quality materials.

Getting Comfortable Working From Home

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

As more and more people are choosing to work from home, we are all to often stuck with the decision as to where to have your ‘home office’. As most of us know the kitchen or dinning room table may seem handy but not really the place to place our laptops, paperwork, pens, mobiles etc…

With many homes now limited for space, we have to try and find that perfect area for our home office and lets be honest who wants their home to look like an office? They have to be kept separate. Once you have identified which room you want to use for your office you have to find modern contemporary office furniture that fits.

It should be comfortable and with ample space to fit all your appliances. When working from home just, as in a normal office or factory you, by law, must follow some health and safety procedures including ergonomics. You don’t want to be cramped and continue to bump your legs and arms every time you need to move out of your chair. Remember, dining chairs are not suitable as an office chair. If you are comfortable you will work harder and longer thus helping your productivity.

Is it me or does everything seen to be getting smaller? From crisp packets to cars, mobile phones to modern houses… some designers prefer using the words ‘compact and bijou’, over small, however, it seems ‘downsizing’ is big at this moment in time.

Ever stop and take in a new-build project, Planners are trying to squeeze as many buildings onto that piece of land as possible, it’s no wonder the designers now have to try and accommodate by making their furniture more compact to suit.

Modern Furnishing Display Cabinets

Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

As children we can still remember sitting uncomfortably in the main living room in the house, overshadowed by the large cumbersome pieces of square wood in the corner of the room, the place where you were told to stay away from, as it contained all the family china and crystal. These display cabinets were often ‘dumped’ in the corner of a room, looking miserable and collecting dust. Thankfully, the 3 stand alone units with their bland design and the pull down drinks cabinet have all been ditched, burnt on bonfires or were used to build Floppy the Bunny Rabbit’s new outdoor hutch.

Wednesday, July 1st, 2009

Work related stress is not just confined to the CEO, the Board of Directors, or any Financial Whizz Kid, it can affect anyone of us for a number of reasons. Stress can also lead to other conditions such as depression, anger or the ability to think out even the easiest of problems.

Imagine coming home and relaxing into your own massage chair, made to the highest of specifications these are much more than a chair, these are our very own personal stress busting centres. How many of us work every hour under-the-sun, then there’s the house to get in order, shopping, cooking, cleaning, kids and perhaps you have a family pet of the hairy kind that needs walked twice a day … when have you got time to relax and have that little piece of ‘me time’?
