Goldfish, Doctors and Oak Bookcases

A few years ago, I remember, walking into a Doctors surgery and the first thing I noticed was a large fish tank which ran the length of the wall. As I sat there, waiting for my name to be called, I watched the fish swimming around the various rocks and plants, I thought to myself, an aquarium would be a nice addition to my home. As my eyes followed the fish to the edge of the tank, I noticed an elegant looking oak bookcase, which was on the other wall. It was filled with various annuals, magazines and a few kids toys shoved in the bottom shelf.

They say first impressions last, and, to be honest as my eyes glided over the bookcases smooth contours and began to follow the dark lines of the grain, I fell in love with this oak masterpiece. I actualy found myself wondering where could I get an oak bookcase and more importantly where would I place in it in my home. After all, no way would I have enough books to fill it. However, just because it says ‘bookcase’ don’t be fooled, this piece of furniture will look great in any room filled with anything from ornaments to picture frames or even a lovely glass goldfish bowl.

  1. I think a fish tank that extends the length of the wall would look fantastic!

I also know someone who has made their fishtank as the wall (you can see straight through it into the other room) May be a bit romeo and juliet for your liking but i think it would look great!

  2. We included a fish tank wall in a project for a client Leeds last year but obviously we got a specialist company to install it.

Stunning result but very tranquil. That’s is surely the reason for a doctor;’s surgery; I believe research has shown that watching a fish tank reduces stress (doctor’s waiting rooms probably are rather stressful places.)
