Contemporary Wallpaper
Decorating a room takes a person on a voyage of choice, taste and judgement. I remember when my partner and I had our first semi-row, it was over what wallpaper should be placed in our dining room. Emotions do get overheated in these situations, when two independent people decide they want to share living quarters with each other then decide it is time to refresh their habitat. We both had strong views on what we liked and disliked. What we considered suitable as appropriate interior furnishing for our small but important dining room.
In the end I capitulated, and my partners choice of wallpaper hung on the wall like some trophy of the sexes of which she had won. Today, many years later, I understand which battles need fighting and which are just not worth my energy in attempting to muster an opinion.
Looking at the choice of contemporary wallpaper designs available today I imagine that they invoke a disagreement or two between couples. The range of wallpaper styles is impressive and the quality of the texture and materials is of a very high standard indeed. So, in a time, when we are all being told to invest in our own homes for when the housing market finds its feet again, I say, ‘If your going to argue over wallpaper then make sure your certain you’ll win. Because if you don’t, it will be hanging there, for many years to come, as a reminder to you that your choice simply wasn’t good enough!’
